Past yearとLast year

英語ではPast yearとLast yearは若干意味が異なります。
In the last yearといえば、昨年、昨年という意味になります。 （例えば、現在の基準で2014年last yearに対応します。）
In the past yearは、現在の時点から365日の間の期間を意味します。
しかし、実際の英語の文章を読むと、厳密に区別しない場合もあります。

While past year is used to refer to the period of 365 days immediately preceding today、last year is used to refer to the last calender year。
